Medical Humanities: The Human Side of Healthcare
Jeanette Juster, MD
Jeannie Juster, MD, received her medical degree from University of California in San Francisco, internship and residency in Family Medicine at University of California Davis. She became board certified in both Emergency Medicine and Family Medicine through 2016 and the final 33 years of her career were as an Emergency physician. Volunteer medical activities are ongoing and have included both domestic and foreign medical care and teaching in West Africa, East Africa, Vanuatu, Papua New Guinea and Central America. She was active with Compassion And Choices Oregon, an organization that advocates for medical aid in dying. Interests include outdoor activities in the Pacific Northwest (hiking, biking, Windsurfing), folk music, watercolor painting and most importantly: spending time with family.
Leslie Francis, Ph.D., J.D.
Leslie P. Francis, Ph.D., J.D., holds joint appointments as Alfred C. Emery professor of law and professor of philosophy, and adjunct appointments in Family and Preventive Medicine (in the Division of Public Health), Internal Medicine (in the Division of Medical Ethics), and Political Science, at the University of Utah. She is a past member of the Ethics Committee of the American Society for Reproductive Medicine. Professor Francis also has been a member of the Medicare Coverage Advisory Committee and of the American Bar Association's Commission on Law and Aging. Professor Francis's books include The Patient as Victim and Vector: Ethics and Infectious Disease (co-authored with Battin, Jacobson, & Smith; Oxford University Press 2010).

Rubor is a medical humanities journal run by medical studets at the University of Utah School of Medicine. Submissions are open to everyone. From Rubor: “Rubor is an instrument of humanism and a creative forum for the humanities at the University of Utah School of Medicine. On behalf of readers and contributors in Salt Lake City, the greater Utah community, and beyond, Rubor seeks to provide a sense of community, belongingness, and expression of humanity, in the context of health and medicine, through its print journal and digital site.”

Kay Collins received her undergraduate degree in Exercise Science from Hendrix College in Conway, Arkansas. After four year as a cardiac specialist, she has begun pursuing a MS in Health and Kinesiology at the University of Utah to become a Health Education Specialist and Wellness Coach. She works with individuals to realize goals, identify barriers, and provide support to achieve growth in overall wellness, she has experience developing educational programs, running STI testing, and leading a student organization. In her free time, she enjoys connecting with her environmental wellness by thrifting, up cycling, and walking.
